UpHill Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 14, 2026

UpHill is designed to be private by default. The app helps you create focus rules, block distracting apps and websites, run focus sessions, track progress, and build discipline with your phone use. UpHill stores your personal focus data locally on your device whenever possible and does not sell your data, track you across apps, or use advertising SDKs.

1. Information UpHill Stores on Your Device

UpHill may store the following information locally on your iPhone:

2. Screen Time, App Blocking, and Website Blocking

UpHill uses Apple’s Screen Time APIs, including Family Controls, Managed Settings, and Device Activity, to help you block selected apps, categories, and web domains. These controls require your permission through Apple’s Screen Time authorization prompt.

When you choose apps or websites to block, Apple provides UpHill with privacy-preserving selection tokens. UpHill uses those tokens to apply your rules on your device. UpHill does not receive the full content of your apps, messages, browser pages, or private browsing history.

The Adult Websites blocker uses Apple’s native Screen Time-supported web filtering. When enabled, UpHill asks iOS to apply Apple’s automatic adult-content filter in supported web contexts. UpHill does not receive a list of adult websites you visit or websites blocked by Apple’s filter. This feature depends on Apple’s filtering system and supported browsers/web contexts, so no app can truthfully guarantee that every adult website on the internet will be blocked.

3. Information We Do Not Collect

4. Data Transmission

The current version of UpHill is local-first. Your rules, sessions, app selections, progress, and Screen Time control settings are stored on your device and, where needed, in the app’s local App Group container so the main app and its Screen Time extensions can work together.

If Apple provides crash logs or diagnostics to the developer through Apple developer tools, we use that information only to improve stability and fix bugs. Those diagnostics are controlled by your iOS privacy settings.

5. AI Coach Feature

UpHill may include a mock or local coach interface in the app. In the current local-first version, this coach UI does not require a backend connection. If a future version adds an online AI coach, Firebase, or another backend service, this Privacy Policy will be updated before coach messages or account data are transmitted off your device.

6. Notifications

If you allow notifications, UpHill may send local reminders related to your focus sessions, rules, goals, or progress. You can disable notifications at any time in iOS Settings.

7. How Your Data Is Used

UpHill uses local app data to:

8. Data Retention and Deletion

Because UpHill stores its core data locally, your rules, sessions, and settings remain on your device until you delete them in the app, reset the app data if that option is available, or delete UpHill from your device. Deleting the app removes the local app data stored by UpHill from your device, subject to normal iOS behavior.

9. Your Choices

10. Children’s Privacy

UpHill is intended for individual self-control and productivity. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to UpHill, contact us so we can help address the issue.

11. Security

UpHill relies on iOS security, app sandboxing, and local App Group storage to protect app data on your device. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but UpHill is designed to minimize data exposure by keeping core focus data local.

12. International Users and Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have privacy rights such as access, correction, deletion, portability, objection, or restriction. Because UpHill’s core data is stored locally on your device, the fastest way to control that data is through the app settings, iOS settings, or by deleting the app. You may also contact us with privacy questions.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when UpHill changes, when new features are added, or when legal requirements change. If the changes are important, we will make reasonable efforts to notify users in the app or through the App Store listing.
